Mike Faist | Giving Back

Originally from Gahanna, Ohio, Mike graduated from high school and moved to New York City to pursue a career in theatre. Mike debuted on Broadway as Morris Delancey in Newsies and received a 2017 Grammy Award and Tony nomination for his role as Connor Murphy in Broadway musical Dear Evan Hansen. Mike will be the first to tell you that though he has worked hard to hone his craft and sacrificed for his career, he has had many opportunities and resources that have been unavailable to many in his home state. His strong desire to change the lives of young people and give back to the place he calls home has culminated in the creation of this annual collaborative gathering of theatre artists and creatives, unique to Ohio and in partnership with Short North Stage.

Ohio Artists Gathering: Our First Festival Summer 2018

In August of 2018, we held our first weeklong festival August 27th-31st, bringing together Ohio and New York theatre artists and creatives - playwrights, producers, directors, choreographers, and actors. The week-long gathering included open-to-public rehearsals, invited the greater Columbus and Ohio theatre communities into the process of creating new works for the stage, and had new work presentations and talkbacks on the final day. Ohio artists and theatre lovers experienced first-hand the creative collaboration of native Columbus artists working at home, in New York, and beyond. Attendance was fluid throughout the week to include artists, students and practitioners. Audience members were invited to experience the culminating presentations and talkbacks.

2020 Festival

With a recent partnership with CAPA, one of Columbus’s leading non-profit arts organizations, the Ohio Connective Theatre Festival will be happening again in August, 2020. We will be expanding our outreach and providing even more opportunities for the Columbus community to be a part of the action. In order for this to happen, we will need continued support from the Columbus community. Keep an eye on our website and social media for updates on this upcoming year.

OCT Fest 2018

“When you see a finished product of a show on broadway, there's 99% that we don't know about what it took to make that happen, and I think if something like this could provide resources, information, and education about the different parts of the process, it would be so valuable to people.”

OCT Fest 2018

“All cities can be a city for new works. I think however, a commitment to produce new works has to be a conscientious and consistent effort, so bravo for the creation of this festival!”
